True, some episodes are 'noticably' weaker than the rest, but overall, 'GakkÅ Gurashi!' is a great watch.
I think the one thing that deters people is when they watch the first episode but quit halfway through, because it is (seemingly) not for them. I would never have checked it out 'way back when' if it hadn't been recommended to me.
